This post is dedicated to the pizza lover who is on a diet or is trying to get healthy. A home made, whole wheat pizza made completely from scratch. This recipe will feed 5 starving people.
For the dough you will need:
3 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
2 tbs olive oil
2 1/2 tsp active yeast
1 1/3 cup warm water
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
For the sauce you will need:
1 packet tomato paste
2 tbs olive oil
1/5 cup water
1 tbs garlic powder
1 tbs onion powder
1/2 tbs dry basil
1. Add your yeast to the water, stir and set aside for 5 minutes
2. Meanwhile, combine the rest of the ingredients in a mixing bowl
3. After 5 minutes are up, add your yeast mixture to the mixing bowl and mix it all up with a mixer for 10 minutes
4. After 10 minutes, you should be left with something that looks like this
5. Divide your dough into 2 even parts and place each ball into a bowl covered with a little olive oil (to prevent sticking)
6. Firmly place some cling film on each bowl and put in a dry, warm place for 2 hours. I usually put them inside the oven (make sure it stays turned off).
7. You can get working on your sauce while the pizza rises. Add all ingredients into a small saucepan and cook for 5 minutes. You can add some salt and sugar to the mixture, so try it out while it is cooking. And you're done.
8. After 2 hours, your dough should have doubled in size.
9. Take one ball of dough from its bowl and cut in half using a knife. This recipe will get you 4 pizzas. Roll each dough into a circular shape (it will help if you put some flour on your rolling surface, that way the dough won't stick to everything).
10. Add your sauce and smother the pizza in toppings! I put different toppings on each pizza but for one of them I put sliced pepperoni, mushrooms, dry basil and mozzarella.
11. Place into a preheated oven (medium heat) and bake for 20 minutes. Voila.
Crispy, thin, juicy, and healthier than anything that comes in a takeout box. You can make this even healthier by using leaner meat like chicken breast, no meat at all, low fat mozzarella, and tons of veggies.
Bon appetite.
