Vapiano in Kuwait

Walking along the first floor of the Avenues, you might have spotted a new Italian restaurant that opened up a few months ago. I remember that when it first opened up, there was a half hour waiting list, and as hungry as I am, I never wait on a restaurant to seat me. Needless to say, I went elsewhere.

However, I was always keen on trying it and recently had the chance of going there. The way Vapiano operates is a bit different than your standard sit down-order-get your food-pay-leave restaurant. The manager came by to us as soon as we walked in, and after welcoming us he explained the whole process.

First you are given your menu and a little card.

Then you are asked to choose your own table, and decide what you want to eat. The atmosphere is very relaxing with a lot of greenery all around you.

When you know what you want to order, you go to one of the stations, depending on what you will be ordering. They have a pizza station, a few pasta stations, and one station for salads and antipasti (appetizers).

You tell the cook what you want, and they make it for you on the spot as you wait.

Remember that small card? This is where you are going to use it. The cook will ask you to lay your card on the black rectangle (pictured above), as he/she electronically puts in your order on the card.

It is all self-service, so you even get to take your own tray, utensils and glasses as you wait for your food to be made.

Lastly, all there is for you to do is collect your food from the window and enjoy it.

Pasta bolognese

Ravioli con carne

Mista salad

When you're all done you take your card and pay up front.

The food is really good and I love the atmosphere. It's a really cool concept too, so if you are in the mood for something new and Italian, I highly recumbent paying them a visit.
